- Wagering the Wife
Andrei Karpov, a Russian man, wagered his wife, Tatiana, in a poker game when he ran out of money. When the winner of the game, Sergey Brodov, went to claim his winning, Tatiana, she graciously accepted him. She divorced Andrei for his selfish and inhumane act, and wed Sergey, and found him charming and handsome.
- ‘Moneymaker’ for real!
The first ever World Series of Poker (WSOP) champions to qualify through an online poker room has “Moneymaker” as his surname. His forefathers hailed from Germany and were coin minters who anglicized the name from “Nurmacher”.
- Not so humble beginnings
Benny Binion, the founder of The World Series of Poker (WSOP) was a convicted murderer and by the early 1940s, he had become a notorious mob boss of Dallas.
- Case closed?
Two men took advantage a bug they detected in video poker machines in Las Vegas and won roughly $400,000. They were accused with federal hacking charges, but the case was eventually dismissed. Their lawyer argued that they played by the rules imposed by the video poker machine, and stated, “All these guys did is simply push a sequence of buttons that they were legally entitled to push.”
- Bull Poker
The Angola Prison Rodeo is the longest running prison rodeo in the United States of America. Periodically, they host an event called Convict Poker. In this event, four inmate cowboys play poker at a table in the middle of a ring in which a bull is released. The last person remaining seated wins the game.
